We are currently in our third year teaching English in South Korea. We have taught primarily at public schools but also have some experience teaching in private schools. During our time in Korea we have had the full spectrum of teaching experiences an ESL teacher can have. We have taught at multiple schools, both middle and elementary levels. We have taught at rural schools, metropolitan school and everything in between. We have taught alone, with a co-teacher and organised English camps.
We backpacked through Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Sumatra and Thailand over a fourteen month trip. During that time we had limited savings to go on, we didn't work and had the time of our lives. We know the value of being budget. We have stayed in the most basic of accommodations, eaten local foods, street foods, slept in train stations and airports, rented places in Sri Lanka and India, all in an effort to keep costs down. Our tips and tricks will help you save money on your trip.
Brian and Noelle left home in August 2009. In that time they have explored Asia extensively and have worked as English teachers in South Korea. They have made travel their lifestyle and travelling long-term their goal. Since 2009, they have made this dream a reality, visiting ten countries in Asia, as well as three trips back to see family in Ireland and a trip to Scotland. They have spent time in places, become localised and enjoyed every minute of their long-term travel lifestyle.
Brian and Noelle have been travelling together for the past four years. They have been through thick and thin together, shared amazing experiences and had some frightening ones too. They have backpacked through India on a budget together, trekked in Nepal, been diving around Asia, lived together in Korea and explored Indonesia, among a host of other experiences. With so many experiences, in so many different environments to draw on they have a wealth of knowledge on couples travel.
Throwing themselves in at the deep-end, Brian and Noelle fell in love with trekking during a trip to Nepal. As their first overnight hike, they hiked to Everest Base Camp and then extended the hike to a total of twenty-three days, opting to walk out rather than fly. A few weeks later and it was back to the Himalayas again to hike to Annapurna Base Camp. Since then they have climbed Ireland's highest mountain twice and Korea's highest mountain, as well as many other hikes.
Brian and Noelle have lived, worked and travelled in Korea for three years and counting. They have lived in different parts of the country, have travelled it extensively and call it their second home. Immersing themselves into the culture and the way of life here, they have developed a deep understanding of how life in Korea is and they can share this knowledge with you.
Brian and Noelle backpacked through Sri Lanka over a ten week period. During that time they explored almost the entire island. They travelled North to Jaffna, visiting remote islands. They travelled through the central 'Hill Country', trekking and visiting tea plantations and factories. Along the beautiful south coast, they rented a small house where they stayed above a local family in a little village and immersed themselves in the local way of life.
Spending three months in Nepal; trekking for twenty three days to Everest Base Camp and through the Khumbu region, travelling to Kodari on the India/China border, trekking again in the Annapurna mountain range, tracking rhinos in Chitwan National Park and hanging out in Kathmandu and Pokhara. Nepal is an incredible country, we backpacked there, made friends with locals and had real life changing experiences there. We are passionate about it and think everyone should visit this amazing place.
Brian and Noelle spent six months backpacking through India on a budget. They travelled through Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Jammu, Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Of course, they visited all the major tourist attractions along the way but they also got off the beaten track as much as possible and were often the only foreigners to be seen in a town.
Home, sweet home. Brian is from Cork and Noelle from Thurles, Co. Tipperary. Before setting off for Asia, Brian and Noelle travelled around Ireland as much as possible. They grew up here and have been to every corner of the country. This is their home and they know it like only locals can, what more can we say! 🙂
