Michael and I have always traveled together. Before we started our nomadic journey in 2012, we traveled 3 – 4 times a year together, making the most of every vacation day available to us. Traveling as a couple can be rocky, but with strong communication and a little bit of compromise it can be the most magical way to see the world.
March 2012 Michael & I bought a one way ticket to everywhere. We sold all of our belongings, said goodbye to family & friends and left Australia for a life of travel. 2 years later and we are still going strong with no plans to return to an 'ordinary' life any time soon. We spend some of our time housesitting to keep our costs down – We live in other peoples homes while they are on vacation, without paying a cent for it. Its a great way to travel. We have even published a book on the topic!
You either love or loathe cruising – I am a lover! Over the last 12 months my husband and I have taken 3 cruises and have more planned for the future. When we need a 'vacation' from our permanent vacation, we opt for a cruise – There is nothing more relaxing than having someone else do all the work for you! Research is the key to finding a cruise that's right for you!
Most people expect long term travelers to be budget minded. My husband and I are not like most people. We like to enjoy the finer things in life and that includes our travel style. Of course, luxury usually comes with a high price tag but it doesn't have to. There are so many ways to travel in style without spending your life savings. This is something we have perfected over the last 2 years of perpetual travel.
Before I started my own blog, I took every course and mentorship that I could find to learn the skills to launch my own blog successfully. Then, in February 2013 SuitcaseStories.com was launched. I have created a successful business by implementing the skills I was taught from more experienced bloggers. I am now a full time blogger and writer, earning the money Michael and I need to travel the world full time via the blog and associated projects.
We have spent a lot of time in Western Europe (and the UK) since we started our nomadic journey in 2012, including a road trip through Italy, Switzerland, Germany and Austria. We have also spent a lot of time in Netherlands, Belgium, France and Spain.
We are Australian and have traveled our own country quite extensively before leaving it to see the rest of the world. We have also spent quite a bit of time in New Zealand, road tripping around both islands. Both of these countries have so much to offer and are really quite beautiful, even if I am a little biased.
We have traveled to 10 of the Caribbean islands, including living in Barbados for a short period. We have been to Barbados, Aurba, Curacao, St Thomas, St Kitts, Puerto Rico, St Maarten, Antigua, St Lucia and the Virgin Islands. We love it there so much we started a blog just about the Caribbean – http://caribbeantravelblog.com
As one of our favorite places in the world, we keep coming back to North America. We have spent a lot of time traveling and housesitting in the States as well as Canada and Mexico. We road tripped around the States for 3 months which saw us visiting 29 states.
As an Australian SE Asia was always a good option for short vacations and we spent time in Hong Kong, Thailand and Singapore. We are about to embark on a luxury tour through Asia which will see us visit Japan, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
