We have been successfully and happily married and traveling the world together for 24 years! We can give our tips for successful negotiation when disagreements occurs and how to truly determine who is the better navigator.
I (Rhonda) has worked in the travel industry for over 20 years, selling tours and vacations around the world. (and we've taken a few as well 🙂 )
Our website, The Next Big Adventure, has been up and going strong for over two years now ((http://thenextbigadventure.net) where we talk of our trips past, present and future. In addition, we help monitor the dogs website (http://theblackdogchronicles.com) and are just starting up a third, more static travel and food website Travel Often~ Eat Well (http://travelofteneatwell.com ). In addition, Rhonda does freelance writing on the side.
We spend nearly every weekend and vacation camping around the West and Pacific Northwest with Aspen and Porter, our two black dogs. They will be coming with us soon, as we drive the PanAm to South America, and even have their own blog: http://theblackdogchronicles.com
We have traveled extensively, but our life-changing trip was a 14-mth backpacking trip covering 20 countries on 5 continents. We overlanded Africa, New Zealand, the USA and eastern Australia. We traveled throughout SE Asia, Fiji & Egypt, and spent several months in exotic (and insane) India. We have knowledge on finding accomodations, what you REALLY need to pack along with what you don't, driving overseas, train travel, and eating on a budget., along with how to blog about your adventure.
Mexico remains our favorite country. We've done dozens of vacations to this amazing land. The food, the culture, and the people bring us back over and over. We have visited all of the major areas of Mexico except Oaxaca and surroundings, and can't wait to get back on the road when we drive the PanAm Highway to delve even further into this wonderful country.
We have traveled by train, riverboat and coach through most countries of Western Europe, touring some more than once. In addition I (Rhonda) have worked for an International Tour company, specializing in Europe, for 15 years, gaining additional knowledge.
We spent nearly 3 months overlanding Africa with a group from Nairobi- Cape Town, covering 8 countries and innumerable miles on one of our favorite adventures! We ended with time on our own in South Africa (and had been there previously), and have also spent time in Egypt…. considered more Middle East, it is, of course, still in Africa. Africa is an amazing place of extraordinary diversity and mind-boggling sightseeing and the wildlife, oh the amazing wildlife!
We have spent extended time in Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia, along with 3 different trips to Thailand, covering much of every one of these countries. SE Asia is a travelers mecca with amazing food and culture, low prices, and fantastic scenery, and a place we head back to again and again! We have explored the capitals and back roads, busing and boating our way throughout this amazing region.
We would certainly hesitate to believe anyone who says they truly understand India, but it is the ONE place we can't stop talking about and can't wait to get back to. In our 3 months we toured Rajastan, stood in awe at the Taj Mahal, trained to the southern tip, and risked our lives on a bus to Kumily. We floated the backwaters, fell in love with Ayurveda and knew that no matter how frustrating, we would forever be drawn to this place like no other. India is our passion!
